This book inspired me as I was choreographing a dance theatre piece working around the topic of catastrophe and disasters our societies are facing right now.

A city is hit by an epidemic of Blindness .

Authorities prison the infected blinded people in an former mental hospital.

The moral doesn't hold up and it opens way for all kinds of criminality f.ex stealing each other's food rations. There is only one woman who can see, she is only entering to be close to her blinded husband. It is a study on humanity, it's weakness and its failures.

It can be read as a parabola.

We are forced to question our moral and our ethical foundations and values, which will be more clear as depicted in an exaggerated situation.
