A student asked Nakagawa-Soen during a meditation retreat,

“I am very discouraged. What should I do?”

Soen Roshi replied, “Encourage others.”

bare bones

An annual workshop festival where everyone is a student

Stay tuned for 2019 dates

…” I had an amazing, nourishing and rare experience. It is not often that i can take time for myself without having to lead or produce - so it was well overdue and the perfect place to reconnect with my own body. The workshops were amazing…”
“The mix of people was great - different backgrounds but the same passion and the friendly environment created fostered easy friendships :)”
“The sense of community we created in a very short period really helped balance the relationship/blur the lines between "teacher" and "student". “
…“You managed to create this specifically inspiring, uplifting and empowering atmosphere that good dance festivals have, you created variety with amazing physical classes, improvisation, showings, and- often missing in dance festivals: discussions. I loooved the discussions.”
…”my favorite thing about Bare Bones though were the outdoor sessions, they made the experience really special…”

In 2019, bones will once again be laid bare, to share what we know, and what we don't

WE ALL HAVE SOMETHING TO SHARE AND SOMETHING TO LEARN. FOR 3 DAYS ON THE GOLD COAST FACILITATORS WILL MOVE FROM CLASS TO CLASS, SOMETIMES GUIDING, SOMETIMES FOLLOWING.

The festival is based around:

  • Intensive research workshops focusing on both the mind and the body

  • studio showings stripped of theatrical artifice to generate conversations about the core questions these artists are working on

but will also contain:

  • Qi gong on the beach, dancing into the ocean, and time to hang out, to talk together, walk together, and be silent together

SHARING IS PROFOUND AND LACKS PROTECTION
